Summary
Gemini, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, is seeking a motivated experienced, goal-driven Chief Operating Officer to join our team. Reporting to the CEO of Europe, the ultimate goal of the role is to devise strategies to expand the business while maintaining operational efficiency and continuing to meet our operational regulatory requirements. We are looking for a proven responsible leader with both an analytical and strategic mind and have a broad knowledge of the business with a drive to operate in a high-growth environment with strong experience in the management of internal and external stakeholders, delivering operational excellence.
This appointment will be central to our aim of expansion in the region. We are looking for a COO who will be willing to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in when they need to, but also work with the CEO to implement the overall strategy. They also need to be a first-principles problem solver across all functions. The ideal candidate has excellent attention to detail, experience working within an outsourced services model, and an ability to communicate complex ideas with a wide array of stakeholders. The position will
oversee customer engagement and back-office operations managing internal and external outsourced services to support our European expansion plans.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the CEO with the effective day-to-day management of business operations for the European business - with a key role in ensuring Gemini’s business objectives in Europe are met. Managing and handling the daily business operations of the company in Europe, working closely with all local and global function and department heads to support the day-to-day activity.
- Providing strategic guidance and recommendations to senior management and the board of directors on operational matters.
- Assume responsibility for the regions entire service delivery for Gemini customers and as part of the senior management team contribute to the achievement of annual business plans and strategic objectives.
- Developing and executing operational strategies aligned with business objectives and growth targets.
- Ensure the operating model for Gemini Europe is fit for purpose; structure, governance, people, processes and technology to enable and support the scaling of the business into Europe.
- Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation, including product development, technology, customer service, and risk management - Implementing processes and systems to optimise efficiency, productivity, and scalability.
- Develop and implement operational leadership across all functions ensuring that operational duties required to fulfil the requirements of the strategic plan, applicable legislative, regulatory and operational requirements are efficiently and effectively carried out.
- Build and manage key relationships with a wide range of stakeholders across all functional areas gaining an understanding of the detailed operational processes being carried out and their challenges presented.
- Ensure outsourced services are provided in accordance with the respective regulatory requirements, industry standards, internal policies, processes, procedures and agreed service level agreements. This includes all activities performed for Gemini customers.
- Build out the Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) to manage both internal and external service providers.
- Manage relationships with external partners, vendors, and service providers.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track operational performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Put in place a management information / reporting process that will enable continuous tracking of business performance including the monitoring of the requirements set out in SLA’s and monitoring of key customer metrics.
- Engaged l with regulators on all operational and other matters as required.
- Identify and lead initiatives to enhance customer experience and satisfaction.
- Evaluate and improve processes and systems to identify opportunities to streamline while ensuring continued operational excellence and support to the overall business growth.
- Ensure that all relevant operational issues and risks are both captured and managed and are escalated where appropriate.
- Perform other activities required to achieve company goals.
Qualifications:
- An undergraduate degree and minimum 15 years’ experience in a relevant field.
- Experience, confidence and stature to make a strong impact at all levels of the organization as well as to liaise effectively and proactively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with high-growth companies, ideally with online platform businesses.
- Experience of working within sophisticated and international financial services businesses and a strong understanding of relevant products and services with a proven track record of successfully advising, influencing and representing a large organization with complex regulatory, financial and legal matters.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships as well as a structured approach to tracking, managing and remediating performance.
- Good analytical skills with an ability to translate group and other centrally derived requirements into practical and compliant local solutions.
- Track record of maintaining operational and administrative efficiency and exceptional organizational skills.
- Good understanding of how the various functions of a regulated financial services business operate (e.g., Compliance, Finance, Risk, Treasury, Audit, Outsourcing).
- The ability to design work processes, plans, KPIs and SLAs that will be required to ensure operational excellence is achieved by monitoring operational efficiency across the business.
- The experience, confidence and stature to make a strong impact at all levels of the organization as well as to liaise effectively and proactively with the leadership teams across the business.
