Summary

As the Engineering Manager of Marketplace Foundation team, you will be responsible for building a future-proof backend infrastructure to support an international marketplace for millions of virtual items that users could acquire to customize their avatars and identities on Roblox platform. The team is responsible for a wide range of critical systems spanning from reliable limited item purchase to scalable collection concept that supports audit record. We are looking for a leader with strong technical background in solving scalability challenges to manage a team of backend engineers to tackle both engineering and product challenges ahead.

You will

  1. Develop team Roadmap, charter and vision. Initiate, own and deliver complex backend projects from the planning stage through execution, serving critical Marketplace functionalities.
  2. Foresee foundational system requirements based on future roadmap across Marketplace and generalize them into long-term engineering solutions.
  3. Provide guidance on architecture and design, and define processes for launching products and features while taking the long-view.
  4. Work with product managers and product vertical partner engineering managers on multiple projects concurrently and drive them successfully.
  5. Collaborate with many cross-functional teams across the company on a daily basis, including shopping, avatar expression, search & recommendation, UGC, purchase, transaction, and ownership.
  6. Hire and provide mentoring to both junior and senior engineers in their progress on business and personal career goals.
  7. Develop and track key metrics for quality and team performance, drive their improvement over time, and communicate their status.

You Have

  1. A proven track record as a leader with strong people management skills and an ability to hire and grow a talented team of engineers.
  2. The ability to contribute to architecture and implementation discussions with in-depth technical knowledge regarding distributed backend systems that could handle a large number of concurrent users.
  3. Passion about finding and working on the long-term solutions for scalability and reliability challenges.
  4. The ability to effectively drive complex projects that involved cross-functional engineering efforts.
  5. Experience to collaborative with excellent communication skills and follow-through.
  6. The ability to be organized and quality-metrics driven with the ability to track numerous separate threads to their appropriate resolution.
  7. Experience with 2+ years in an engineering management role and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical field.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

Annual Salary Range

$283,780—$331,640 USD
