Summary

Coinbase is leading the expansion of digital assets into the financial mainstream. We are building a world-class Policy team to lead Coinbases engagement, advocacy, and outreach efforts with policymakers around the world. In this role, you will be a key member of the Policy team, at a company where disruptive technologies and unconventional thinking are the norm. You will have an extraordinary opportunity to be on the leading edge of policy development in the cryptocurrency space, and will play an important role in advancing Coinbases policy strategy in the United States. You will work closely with external partners, internal business leaders,  and other internal support functions like Legal, Compliance, Comms and Marketing, to ensure alignment of our policy activities and functions. This position is fully remote. 

Reporting to the Chief Policy Officer, the Executive Director (ED) of Coinbase Institute will lead Coinbases internal think tank and policy thought leadership arm, while also playing a leadership role within the larger Policy team to ensure that Coinbases strategic activities in the areas of lobbying, grassroots engagement, and regulatory affairs are aligned with Coinbases larger strategic plan. 

The ED will keep a pulse on substantive policy developments in the crypto ecosystem, while also keeping a close watch on operational matters such as the Policy teams budget and long-term strategic planning. Specifically, the ED of Coinbase Institute will:

What youll be doing (ie. job duties):

• Conceive, draft, and oversee the execution of Coinbase Institute thought leadership pieces, including whitepapers, primers, blogs, and long-form academic pieces. 
• Manage Coinbases relationships with other important crypto policy thought leaders, including universities, think tanks, trade associations, and corporations. 
• Work with the Chief Policy Officer to develop and execute Coinbases strategic plan for public policy engagement throughout all levels of government. This includes steering continued alignment between the Policy Teams individual projects and overall policy strategy.
• Serve as the main point of contact for key initiatives and inbound requests from the Policy Team Leads and members of other cross-functional teams within Coinbase.
• Identify issues across the organization and crypto policy ecosystem, then create initiatives to solve them. Guide Coinbase leadership toward clear, efficient and accountable decision-making following external engagements.
• Manage the Policy operations function, including budget and strategic planning.
• Develop and execute executive-level communications and messaging to educate and influence stakeholders. Communicate priorities, activities, and results to the Policy team and larger organization, while ensuring deliverables are met. Have a solid pulse and feedback loop on organizational needs and budgetary planning.

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

• 9+ years experience in public policy, law or another relevant discipline. 
• Subject matter expert on financial services or technology issues affecting the crypto industry.
• Expertise in public policy thought leadership, such as work involving think tanks or academic institutions. 
• Demonstrated ability to run operations for a fast moving team.  
• Experience in providing strategic leadership and counsel on policy issues. 
• Skilled at interacting effectively with all levels of management, regulators and policy makers.
• Superlative writing and communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for working on novel issues in a turbocharged environment, combined with a proclivity for proactive
• collaboration when problem solving.
• Excellent team-building skills.
• A strong interest in digital assets, crypto markets, and blockchain technology.
• Dynamic presentation and verbal communication skills.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).

Pay Range:

$259,250 - $305,000 USD
