Job Description
Summary
As Head of Communications, you’ll oversee and unify our external and internal communications, with a strong focus on shaping how Parity is seen, understood, and trusted across the Web3 ecosystem. Externally, you’ll guide how we communicate our technology, our vision, and our voice to developers, partners, and the broader public, working closely with product engineering to translate complex technical ideas into compelling narratives, clearly highlighting the unique value propositions of the Polkadot’s tech stack and products. Your role will involve positioning these features in the context of competing blockchain protocols, effectively showcasing Polkadot’s differentiation and unique advantages. You’ll own our presence across social platforms, forums, media, and events, ensuring clarity, consistency, and leadership in a fast-paced, decentralised space. Internally, you’ll take ownership of company-wide communications, ensuring that our remote-first teams remain aligned, informed, and engaged.
This is a senior role with broad remit and high visibility, ideal for someone who brings communications mastery, technical fluency, and the confidence to lead cross-functional storytelling in a decentralised, engineer-driven organisation.
About the position
- Lead the development and execution of Parity’s internal and external communications strategy that positions Parity as a leader in tech innovation and a core driver of Polkadot’s technical roadmap.
- Work closely with engineers and product leads from day one of new initiatives to understand the tech, then distill highly technical concepts into clear, engaging content for various audiences, with a focus on demonstrating the competitive edge of Polkadot’s technology compared to other blockchain ecosystems.
- Report directly to the VP of Operations and play a key communication leadership role across departments, overseeing all day-to-day communications operations – from shaping our external presence across various channels and communities to overseeing internal comms initiatives like All Hands, the company handbook, and our internal forum.
- Own and elevate our technical documentation standards across public-facing and internal content. You’ll work with engineers and product teams to ensure clarity, accessibility, and consistency, while also training contributors on best practices for technical writing and documentation hygiene.
- Lead and craft communications strategies for new product launches, clearly articulating complex technical messages tailored to diverse audiences – developers, ecosystem stakeholders, media, investors.
- Take ownership of all communication channels for Parity – from social media (X/Twitter, LinkedIn) to community platforms (Telegram, Discord) and our website. Essentially, you will be the voice of Parity across these channels, driving consistent, authentic engagement and building Parity brand.
- Develop a messaging framework that consistently underscores how Parity’s innovations in Polkadot technology effectively address industry challenges compared to competing protocols.
- Build and maintain relationships with tech journalists, influencers and other external stakeholders to proactively position Parity as a thought leader in the tech industry.
- Work on initiatives from their earliest stages alongside product engineering teams, bringing a communications perspective into technical development. You’ll help shape the narrative and collaborate with key Polkadot ecosystem stakeholders — including partners like Distractive — to define and align on product communication strategies that serve both Parity’s mission and the wider Polkadot needs.
- Support and coach internal speakers – particularly engineers and technical leaders – in preparing for conferences, AMAs, and public talks. This includes offering guidance on presentation structure, delivery, messaging, and non-verbal communication such as tone and body language, ensuring every appearance is impactful, confident, and on-message.
- Collaborate closely with Parity’s Events Lead to build communication plans for key industry events. While identifying event opportunities and speakers is led by the Events function, this role will shape how we show up – from messaging and narratives to stage presence and post-event comms.
About you
- You have 7+ years of leadership and management experience in communications or PR roles and a proven track record of successfully managing communication programs for developer-first brands or open-source projects. You have a strong focus on tech or developer-facing products and a deep understanding of developer communities and what truly engages them.
- Strong understanding of software development and engineering culture. You don’t need to code, but you might have a computer science background or past dev experience. At a minimum, you’re comfortable talking about APIs and algorithms with engineers and then explaining those concepts to a non-technical audience. (If you’ve run communications for a blockchain project or developer platform, you know exactly what we mean.)
- Deep familiarity with decentralized communities and the Web3 ethos. You know that blockchain and open source communities thrive on transparency and dialogue.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You can craft everything from a punchy tweet to a detailed whitepaper. More importantly, you can adapt your tone for different channels – professional for a press release, casual and meme-friendly on Twitter, deeply technical on developer forums, and inspiring on stage. The ability to distill complex ideas into accessible, compelling stories is absolutely critical, ensuring that Polkadot’s benefits are clearly articulated and differentiated from other protocols.
- Proven track record of developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies. You possess strong planning and project management skills, enabling you to manage multiple campaigns simultaneously while adhering to strict deadlines. Your experience in coordinating across diverse teams, such as engineering, product, design, and events, demonstrates your ability to effectively drive projects from conception to launch.
- You are a data driven individual. Whether it’s social engagement, community sentiment, or coverage reach, you use data to refine your approach. You also stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging platforms, and what other leading tech communities are doing – and you’re excited to experiment and learn continuously.
- Familiarity with the ecosystems around projects like Ethereum, or others is a plus.
- You have a knack for creative storytelling and even a bit of humor. We value a modern voice, not stuffy corporate speak.
- Professional level of English, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.
