Job Description

Summary

The Department: Trading

Gemini is a regulated, full service crypto service provider where technology is the core of the company. There are a wide range of tough problems to solve at Gemini – from properly securing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of customer funds, to facilitating customer crypto trading needs, to finding new techniques to combat fraud, to shaving microseconds off our API response times, and everything in between.

Our growing OTC team is made up of skilled traders, engineers, and product managers who combine knowledge of traditional financial markets with crypto experience to provide best in class products & services for our clients. As a member of this department you will cover institutional OTC (over the counter) client flow & trading systems. On the cutting edge of execution services, this department will evolve into both new products and new jurisdictions as the market progresses and regulation permits.

The Role: OTC Trading Intern

We're looking for an entrepreneurial, mission-driven OTC Intern to assist us in streamlining our operations across our different verticals (spot OTC, eOTC and derivatives) as well as researching trading and revenue opportunities, mostly on the systematic side. The ideal candidate should have a genuine interest in trading, current exposure to crypto and a strong quantitative background (python / data science).

This will be a hybrid, 10-week summer internship program starting the second week of June with 3 days a week in office.

Responsibilities:

  1. OTC Operations (50%)
  2. Audit our current workflow and associated tools covering the different types of instruments we offer to our customers. This will give the intern a great hands on overview in the daily operations of a sale-side trading desk.
  3. Propose improvements to these workflows.
  4. Implement these improvements when approved.
  5. Systematic Strategy Research (50%)
  6. The OTC desk has an internally developed infrastructure to run systematic strategies across spot, perps, futures and options exchanges.
  7. Suggest signal based strategies that could be implemented using our infrastructure including backtesting dataset and optimization parameters.
  8. Implement a backtesting framework to run backtests and optimizers for identified strategy opportunities.
  9. Present the most promising strategies as a report to the rest of the team.
  10. Work with other traders and our internal dev team to put these strategies into production.

Qualifications:

  1. Currently pursuing a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a quantitative or related field.
  2. Strong interest in cryptocurrency, blockchain, and financial technology (experience in crypto is a plus).
  3. Experience in trading in a personal account (automated strategies and related backtests a clear plus).
  4. Quantitative major (maths, physics, statistics), with some notions of economics (a plus).
  5. Strong coding skills (Python).
  6. Attention to detail.

Pay Rate:

The hourly pay rate for this role is $38/hour in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
