Our Platform organization’s purpose is to enable Gemini to scale effectively and empower our engineering teams to focus on building innovative financial products and experiences for individuals around the world. Platform focuses around building a scalable and secure foundations platform, enabling Engineering to deploy, validate, and operate their services in production, improve resiliency of the service and increase organizational efficiency by reducing operational toil and increase system efficiency through architectural evolution.

The Role: Principal Cloud Engineer

The Compute Engineering team is part of our larger Platform organization and maintains the physical data centers and Kubernetes-based infrastructure that powers Gemini. As an engineer on this team, you’ll work optimizing our infrastructure for High Performance computing (HPC) workloads, architecting and building out Kubernetes as multi-regional deployment for high resiliency, along with defining auxiliary services, like a cohesive service mesh architecture. With users and engineers around the world, reliability, scalability, efficiency and high availability are our team’s core concerns. You'll be an integral part of leading Gemini’s engineering teams towards modern DevOps practices.

Responsibilities:

1. Deliver and manage the infrastructure that powers Gemini's growing services (consisting of compute, network, storage and developer productivity).
2. Deep experience in the development and operations of a Kubernetes-based, geo-scale, distributed services platform.
3. Proficient in working with Relational, NoSQL, and In-memory databases like Postgres, AWS Aurora, DynamoDB, Redis, and Elasticache.
4. Experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, like Terraform, Ansible, Salt, etc.
5. Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development.
6. Deep understanding of modern software development practices, like CI/CD, service instrumentation, and multi-site software deployment and operation.
7. Experience with CI tools such as Jenkins/Concourse/AWS Code deploy/CircleCI etc.
8. Experience with logging, monitoring, alerting systems such as Splunk/ELK, Telegraph/Prometheus, DataDog/New Relic, Sentry, and PagerDuty.

Qualifications:

1. 10+ years of experience in the field.
2. Strong product and customer centric design approach.
3. Cloud technologies and providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
4. Containerization and Container orchestration with Kubernetes.
5. Service discovery and service mesh technologies such as Istio, Linkerd.
6. Infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code solutions like Terraform, Terragrunt, Ansible, etc.
7. Proficient in scripting and/or Python, or Golang.
8. Linux kernel tuning and Network host debugging skills.
9. Solid organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent communication skills.

Salary Range

: The base salary range for this role is between $172,000 - $215,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
