Summary
Roles that are based in our San Mateo, CA Headquarters are in-office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional in-office on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
As the Principal Engineer for the Knowledge pod within the Creator Success Group you will help a new generation of Creators bring their ideas to life. This group is diverse - 13 year-olds learning to program for the first time, experienced devs from other platforms, long-time Roblox Creators trying to do something new. We unblock and inspire them through Knowledge, which is fun, personalized, and social.
You will be the technical lead for Knowledge engineering, including end-to-end architecture, implementation, and delivery of a platform that spans web, cloud, and Roblox Studio + Services. We are looking for a principal level engineer or higher. Leveling to principal or above will be based on experience and interview performance.
You Will:
- Report to the Engineering Manager of the Knowledge pod.
- Architect the future of systems owned by the Knowledge pod - AI Tutors, Personalized Learning, Automated Documentation Pipelines, Social Learning, Studio-Knowledge integration
- Work with product, design, management, and cross-team collaborators to uphold development quality bar and velocity
- Mentor and grow a junior-heavy Knowledge team, both through formal mentoring and leadership by example
You Have:
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in building complex, cross-team systems that impact millions of users' lives. 2+ years of experience with a technical leadership role within a cross-functional team as an independent contributor.
- Technical prowess: Breadth and flexibility over depth. Demonstrate ability to ship both web apps and backend services using best practices and creative designs that stand the test of time.
- Product focus: You have experience working with cross-functional teams to build consumer-facing products. Bonus points for AI, social or learning-related products. The "why" and user are clear to you for every feature you implement.
- Empathy: Your team looks forward to working with you. Juniors look up to you as an example. You intently listen to both your juniors and seniors and strive to keep stakeholders updated. You defend your technical decisions without demeaning others.
- Drive: When you commit to a project, you are constantly seeking opportunities to make it successful. Other people on the project rally around your focus. You become the domain expert and are perpetually seeking ways to hone your craft.
For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.

$315,850—$383,910 USD
