Summary

As part of a newly formed Block central design team, our mission is to reinvent the way we design, build, and govern product ecosystems, internally and externally to Block, while showing the world what open source design looks like in the process. Our team built the design systems that powers Cash App, and we are now expanding our efforts into AI-assisted tooling and open-source agent-based automation (check out our recently launched agent codename goose!).

Work from anywhere: This role can be performed remotely from any location in the US.

You Will

1. Design AI-powered tools that enhance creativity and efficiency, including open-source AI agents that automate and augment workflows.
2. Design plugins, linters, and automation tools (Figma, native apps, internal tools) that improve the design and development process.
3. Consult with business unit teams on how they can apply AI solutions to their workflows, and guide teams towards a technology first approach to crafting the customer experience.
4. Explore novel applications of AI in design workflows, from generative UI solutions to intelligent layout suggestions and predictive design patterns.
5. Design and maintain design systems that power our open source tools, supporting documentation, and all extensions of our work that can be leveraged across Block.

You Have

1. 8+ years of experience working in user experience, product, or relevant design field
2. A deep interest in the design and development process itself, always thinking about better ways to deliver craft at scale 
3. Experience designing full product solutions end-to-end autonomously while guiding cross functional partners through the process 
4. Experience designing with, and contributing to, design systems within a large product organization
5. Strong user interface and design fitness
6. Proficiency with current UI and product workflow tools (figma, airtable, notion, etc.) and comfortable speaking to modern display layer technologies (Token Schemas, APIs, Swift, Kottlin, etc)
7. Been mistaken for an ops person or product manager before
8. Experience working with distributed teams in multiple time zones and an affinity for designing and facilitating asynchronous collaborative work
9. Past work experience showcasing the ability to define major workstreams, communicate a plan and success measurement framework, and then execute 
10. The spidey sense to recognize patterns most people don’t see in the organization, and the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts to connect the dots

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
