Summary

As Senior Counsel at Gemini, you are the ultimate writer and negotiator. Leveraging both breadth and depth of experience at a law firm and/or as in-house counsel, you will lead the drafting, revision, evaluation and negotiation of strategic partnership, financial institution, licensing, consulting, marketing, non-disclosure, and other financial, commercial, technology, and vendor agreements. You also will help Gemini scale a nimble and efficient legal agreement work flow tasked with addressing and tackling the complex contractual challenges that confront a disruptive emerging asset class. By working closely with Gemini’s Business Development, Finance and Accounting, and Supplier Relations teams, you’ll play a critical role in building our business at the forefront of the future of money.

Responsibilities:

  1. Focus on both Commercial and Product work.
  2. Draft, evaluate, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements.
  3. Provide risk-weighted advice to business principals that succinctly balances commercial upside against corresponding legal, financial, operational, and reputational risk.
  4. Develop and scale efficient contract workflow for Gemini, including coordination of relevant internal stakeholders and external providers.
  5. Establish standard templates and negotiation matrices to support Gemini’s growing commercial contracting needs.
  6. Manage projects effectively and collaboratively.
  7. Build positive and influential relationships with Gemini Leadership and cross-functional partners, evangelizing the Legal team’s expertise and services across the company.
  8. Collaborate with and support the General Counsel and the rest of the Legal team to evaluate and communicate legal risks to internal stakeholders and external parties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. JD degree.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of relevant legal experience at a law firm or in-house.
  3. Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Strong knowledge of and interest in disruptive technology, financial services, or security; prior experience working in fintech, digital assets or high-growth tech companies a plus.
  2. Proven ability to proactively, efficiently, and accurately assess legal business risks in a fast-paced environment.
  3. Track record of creative problem-solving, excellent written and oral communication skills, and creation of strong and trusted cross-functional relationships.

Salary Range:

The base salary range for this role is between $209,000 - $261,000 in the State of New York, the State of California and the State of Washington. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.

In the United States, we have a flexible hybrid work policy for employees who live within 30 miles of our office headquartered in New York City and our office in Seattle. Employees within the New York and Seattle metropolitan areas are expected to work from the designated office twice a week, unless there is a job-specific requirement to be in the office every workday. Employees outside of these areas are considered part of our remote-first workforce. We believe our hybrid approach for those near our NYC and Seattle offices increases productivity through more in-person collaboration where possible.
