The Position
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer, passionate about designing and optimizing large-scale, high-performance data systems. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to build Absinthe’s foundational data infrastructure, powering critical customer insights and loyalty metrics across our platform. This is a high-ownership role in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, perfect for engineers who want to see their work directly impact product value and customer engagement.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement scalable data pipelines to process customer data across platforms, powering real-time loyalty rewards and personalized user experiences
- Develop sophisticated points-based reward systems using Postgres SQL, enabling dynamic leaderboards, rank-based rewards, and configurable points transfers
- Build and optimize dbt transformations to create advanced loyalty mechanics, from targeted bonus structures to complex eligibility rules
- Architect a comprehensive customer data platform that enables identity resolution and attribute-based targeting, driving higher engagement rates
- Engineer robust monitoring and analytics systems to ensure reliable pipeline performance and provide actionable insights to stakeholders
- Create flexible data integrations that adapt to diverse data sources, expanding our platform's reach and capabilities
What You Bring
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, ideally within customer data platforms, adtech, or high-growth tech environments.
- Technical Mastery:
- Advanced skills in ETL and data pipeline development, with strong command of Postgres-SQL..
- Practical experience with data orchestration tools like dbt and Dagster.
- Proficiency in Python data science libraries such as numpy, pandas, scipy, and sklearn for advanced data manipulation and machine learning workflows.
- A solid grasp of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Python (and it’s libraries) for data engineering.
- Familiarity with CI/CD workflows (github actions), automated backup strategies, and monitoring tools (grafana, prometheus, alerting, etc).
- Bonus: Familiarity with RabbitMQ, Amplitude, or Google Analytics.
- Efficient Communicator: You’re skilled at conveying complex ideas in distributed teams and bring effective communication to collaborative projects.
- Start-up Agility: You thrive in a high-growth environment and bring a proactive, iterative approach to your work.
