Summary
As a Business Intelligence Data Engineer supporting Afterpay, you will play a critical role in shaping the long-term success of Afterpay’s financial operations by delivering valuable insights to the Afterpay Treasury team. Your responsibility will be to define, develop, and manage curated datasets and key financial metrics, enabling business teams to make data-driven decisions. This will involve architecting and implementing data models and ETL pipelines to provide the necessary infrastructure for clear, actionable insights into financial and operational performance.
You will work remotely and report to the AiDA BI Data Engineering Manager. You will be the go-to expert for building the data foundation that powers business intelligence (BI) and visualization tools across financial operations. Your work will empower stakeholders, especially within the Treasury function, to monitor liquidity, forecast cash flows, assess risk, and evaluate the health of Afterpay’s financial ecosystem. Additionally, you will offer guidance on key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that impact Afterpay’s financial decision-making processes, through curated datasets and data-driven visualizations.
You will:
- Partner with the Guidance team, upstream infrastructure platform engineering teams, and downstream data consumers to understand data and translate requirements into technical design of building scalable data pipelines
- Work with DS lead to define the metrics/KPI required to measure to measure performance and forecast
- Focus on accuracy and scalability of data pipelines ensuring it's easy to ingest new projects
- Develop and take ownership of BI data pipelines and centralized data warehouse with curated datasets and standardized metrics and business definitions to empower data access and self-service
- Perform ad hoc analysis, insight requests, and data extractions to resolve critical business reporting issues
- Design dashboards in Looker or Tableau to empower stakeholders monitoring important KPIs through novel visualizations
You Have
- 5+ years of data engineering experience with an understanding of database management and cloud computing databases
- Experience with data warehousing architecture
- Experience with data modeling and dimensional modeling design
- Experience with end-to-end ETL pipeline development and implementation using SQL and python
- Experience building reports with Looker, Tableau, or similar BI visualization tools.
- Experience with cloud-based computing services and data warehouses like Snowflake, Redshift, Azure, or similar
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to understand complex business systems and requirements

- Experience working with Finance/Accounting/Treasury partners in helping them measure/tracking operational metrics (such as Loan Volumes, Amount Receivable, Repayments, LateFees, Recoveries)
