Summary

The SingleStore database engine team is responsible for building the core database engine behind SingleStore. This includes developing in-memory and on-disk data structures and algorithms, row and columnar stores, networking, query optimization, and execution.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the database engine team, you will have the exciting opportunity to build systems software in a rapid production environment with a small and collaborative team. This includes overseeing the direction, design, and development of key features that can be attributed to just a handful of engineers. In this position, you will be empowered to leverage your technical, leadership, and business acumen while mentoring other engineers who are eager to learn from you.

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Lead innovation for major software components, systems, and features.
  2. Design and develop new systems to enhance database performance and expand functionality.
  3. Implement pioneering execution and storage techniques for both transactional and analytical queries.
  4. Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.
  5. Mentor and train other team members on design techniques and coding standards.
  6. Actively participate in customer POCs.
  7. Work collaboratively with multiple departments such as Sales, Marketing, and Technical Support.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a similar field.
  2. At least four years of experience developing and debugging in system level C/C++, particularly on Linux.
  3. Background in database internals, or with building core components for large-scale, distributed data-processing systems.
  4. Passion for building highly reliable system software.
  5. Effective communication skills.
  6. Creativity, internal motivation, and a strong work ethic.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  1. Extra consideration will be given to candidates who possess any of the following:
  2. Experience developing database extensibility mechanisms (UDFs, UDAs, TVFs, SPs, etc.).
  3. Experience developing search software that uses vector embeddings and/or full-text (e.g. Lucene).
  4. Experience with WebAssembly (Wasm) and/or Rust.
  5. Experience with cloud technologies and building cloud-native SaaS.
